WHY IS THERE SENSITIVITY AFTER DENTAL FILLING?

Dental filling is a treatment performed to repair the loss of material in the tooth due to caries. During this treatment, first the caries is cleaned, the tooth is made suitable for filling, and the lost tooth tissues are repaired by placing various filling materials.

Tootache, tingling, and tenderness are expected in the first few weeks after filling. Because during removal, the pulp chamber where the vascular-nerve network of the tooth is approached and damage occurs in the extensions of this nerve network in the layers under the enamel tissue of the tooth. These initiate a repair process in the first few weeks. During this process, there may be various symptoms such as toothache, tenderness, and tingling.

.However, this is not the only reason for sensitivity after filling:

-Excessive heat due to incomplete cleaning or operating the tools used without water,

-The filling may not hold, form gaps, or take in air because of incompete filling

-Allergy to the filling material,

-In cases such as high filling, tooth sensitivity may occur. In such cases, the filling may need to be renewed.

If there is severe and persistent pain after filling enough to keep the patient from sleeping at night, the pulp chamber where the tooth's vascular-nerve network is located may be infected due to caries or there may be a deep decay in the tooth that cannot be saved by filling. These cases may need root canal treatment. If you have similar complaints, we recommend that you consult your physician as soon as possible.
